IEEE 802.11g adopted!

Long-awaited news: the Standards Board of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) ratified the final specifications of the IEEE 802 standard.11g.

About the new version of the standard for wireless WLAN networks – IEEE 802.11g, we have already written several times, now it just remains to state the fact of its official existence and briefly recall its specifications. The new version of the standard is an extended version of the 11 Mbit / s version of IEEE 802.11b (or, as it is now called, Wi-Fi) and delivers data rates up to 54 Mbps. Both standards use the same 2.4 GHz frequency band to operate, unlike IEEE 802.11a, providing traffic of up to 54 Mbps in the 5 GHz band. IEEE 802.11g backward compatible with IEEE 802.11b, which allows devices of both substandards to work in a single network.

In the coming days, we should expect a wave of announcements about the release of devices with support for the “official” IEEE 802.11g. Details about the standard itself can be found on the official website of IEEE 802.eleven.
