First single-chip Gigabit Ethernet controllers from Realtek

Realtek Semiconductor Announces Proprietary RTL8169S and RTL8110S Single-Chip Gigabit Ethernet Controllers. New three-speed (10/100/1000, t.e., Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet) 32/64-bit chips combine a Gigabit MAC (Media Access Controller) controller and a Gigabit physical layer transceiver in a single package.

RTL8169S and RTL8110S chips are fully compliant with IEEE 802 standards.3.802.3u, 802.3ab and 802.3z, support NWay auto-negotiation as well as 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1000Mbps data transfer. In addition, RTL8169S and RTL8110S chips have integrated support for 33/66 MHz, 32/64-bit PCI v2 bus.2. The difference between the new products is that the RTL8169S chip is designed for use in network Gigabit Ethernet cards, while the RTL8110S is designed for integration into mainboards. In addition, it is worth mentioning that the RTL8110S chip is electrically compatible with one of the previous designs, the Realtek RTL8100C single-chip 10 / 100Mbps Fast Ethernet controller.

32-bit versions of chips – RTL8169S-32 and RTL8110S-32, remain in a 128-pin QFP package, 64-bit versions of RTL8169S-64 and RTL8110S-64 – in a 233-pin TFBGA package. All options are manufactured in compliance with the 0.18 micron technical process, all options are guaranteed to be supported by Windows, Linux, UNIX, Novell, Mac OS, etc.

Samples of RTL8169S and RTL8110S chips are already available for user verification, mass production is scheduled for June 2021.
