e-Surveillance: Sony makes its debut in the CCTV market
At the ASIS Security Expo in New Orleans, Sony teamed up with Cisco to showcase e-Surveillance, a digital video surveillance system that uses the TCP / IP family of protocols for broadcast and processing. The “heart” of the system is a special server:
Sony also unveiled the SNC-Z20N, a 1/4 “EXwave HAD CCD camera with an 18x optical zoom autofocus lens. The camera provides transmission of digital images via TCP / IP (10/100 Base-TX interface is supported) up to 50 users simultaneously, there is a PCMCIA Type II connector for installing, for example, a wireless adapter or flash memory card and an RS-232C port. The camera’s web server, which is assigned its own address, supports TCP / IP, ARP, ICMP, DNS, NTP, HTTP, DHCP, FTP, SNMP, and SMTP.
Curiously, the SNC-Z20N can be serviced and controlled by both a PC and a Pocket PC (PDA).
And finally, any video surveillance system should have monitors. Along with e-Sruveillance, two monitors based on Trinitron technology were announced: SSM-14L1 and SSM-20L1 (14- and 20-inch models, respectively).
Products are expected to go on sale in October. Prices will be announced later.
