Tu Chiang: SiS’s New Graphics Subsidiary

Earlier rumors that SiS has decided to spin off its multimedia division into a separate company are confirmed by new reports from Taiwan. True, now this information no longer resembles rumors, but simply not officially announced data.

So, the proposed creation of an independent enterprise for the production of multimedia (including graphics) products based on the SiS division, according to the latest data from industrial sources, is scheduled for May. The name of the new company is already known. In free transliteration from Chinese, it looks like this: Tu Chiang (Tu Chiang Technology).

According to preliminary data, the chairman of the new company will be Jackson Hu, who currently holds the post of head of the R&D department at UMC, as well as, since the beginning of this year, a member of the SiS board of directors. Chris Lin, current vice president of SiS Multimedia Product Division, will become President of Tu Chiang. According to preliminary data, the initial capitalization of the company will be about NT $ 500 million. – NT $ 600 million., however, there is no data yet on whether UMC will take part in the formation of Tu Chiang.

While there is no concrete information yet on the impending reorganization, the newly formed subsidiary Tu Chiang is expected to be free of SiS’s current depreciation costs of maintaining its own 200mm factories – approximately NT $ 4 billion. per year, plus, the new company will not be burdened with stocks of old products. With such a “clean” financial background, the company has every chance of becoming profitable in the shortest possible time.

And the last. We have consulted here on ICQ with my good friend Cho, from the GZeasy website, about what the combination Tu Chiang actually means. Cho says that this phrase can have a double meaning: on the one hand, something like “the desire to be strong”, or even “serious intentions”, on the other – the word “Tu” also means Graphics, so it can be assumed that something like Powerful Graphics. So it goes.
