How to distinguish between “old” and “new” GeForce FX 5600 Ultra in practice?
Recently, our video laboratory received a video card Albatron Gigi GeForce FX 5600 Ultra for testing, as it was written in the annotation – “revision 2.0 “. That is, a card with a chip / memory clock frequency of 400 MHz / 400 (800) MHz. However, according to Andrey Vorobyov, the section editor, neither on the card itself, nor on the box, there is not a word that this is a “new” Ultra. By “new”, of course, we mean the version of the GeForce FX 5600 Ultra with a clock frequency of 400 MHz, in contrast to the “old” revision with its 350 MHz.
Thus, it is impossible to distinguish the new version from the “old” one on the GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 350 MHz, which we have already tested earlier.
We warn potential buyers that there may be GeForce FX 5600 Ultra chips on the market with exactly the same design, packaging, marking, but having different frequencies: 350 and 400 MHz. When buying such cards, ask the sellers for details, and if they are not in the know, then make a purchase with the possibility of return / replacement.
It must be assumed that NVIDIA partners are not to blame for the fact that the chip maker supplies different products under the same name. The design of the cards is similar, the name of the product is the same. Perhaps some of the video card manufacturers will separate the “old” and “new” 5600 Ultra, but so far, unfortunately, there is complete confusion.
