UMC will be engaged in the development of 65-nm technical processes in splendid isolation

After unsuccessful negotiations with Infineon, it looks like UMC is going to break out of the general trend of joint development of new technological processes and start exploring the prospects of 65nm processes alone.

The agreement with Infineon will end at 90nm norms, and the company itself has already been seen in negotiations with Chartered and IBM.

In addition, UMC announced that it will continue to develop 130nm semiconductor chips with aluminum interconnects for those customers who do not need the speed usually associated with copper connections or do not want to get involved with “copper problems.”.
