VIA PT800-based motherboards will start shipping by the end of August

Logically, the statement in the title should look somewhat strange for the PT800 chipset, officially announced a month and a half ago, more precisely – on July 8. However, according to reports from Taiwanese industrial sources, there is a reason for this: the announcement of the chipset was mostly “paper”, since until recently VIA did not start mass deliveries. The problem, according to these sources, lay in the debugging of the VT8237 south bridge, more specifically, the built-in Serial ATA controller.

It looks like all the final tests are already over, as Taiwan reports on the planned shipments of boards for PT800 by the end of August. Recall that PT800 is a chipset for Pentium 4 processors, supporting single-channel DDR400 and 800 MHz FSB. Until now, this niche is dominated by Intel, however, the offensive of Taiwanese chipset manufacturers has every chance of success, if only because their variants with support for 800 MHz FSB will cost motherboard manufacturers an average of $ 10 less than the i865 series.
