Canon prepares printers fully compliant with new EU environmental regulations
Canon has announced plans to release a new multifunction printer in November, fully compliant with the recently adopted EU environmental requirements for electronic equipment, according to Dow Jones.
It looks like this statement is one of the first in a series of similar ones. As you know, the new toughened requirements of the European Union for electronics, which will come into force from July 2021, prohibit, for example, the use of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, as well as bromide compounds PBB (polybrominated biphenyls) and
PBDE (polybrominated diphenylethers), often used by manufacturers as flame retardant elements in electronics. One of the first “swallows” in this regard at one time was the company Matsushita Electric Industrial, which announced the termination of the use of lead in its products. Canon’s multifunction printers may be the first to completely eliminate the six chemicals listed above.
Over time, according to Canon, all of its products will meet new EU environmental standards. So far, Canon has had to change production conditions for about 250 components to meet these requirements. Canon says this increased production costs in the first phase by only 2%.
