IEEE 802.11n: Up to 320Mbps throughput

According to the British web resource The Register, the IEEE has already begun developing a standard to achieve 802.11a bandwidth 108 Mbps, and 320 Mbps in 802-based standard.11g.
As we reported earlier this year, the High Throughput Study Group was formed to expand the capabilities of the 802 specifications.11 and a significant increase in its throughput. A possible variant of the standard the group is working on is tentatively called 802.11n.

The group reportedly will focus primarily on modifying the MAC controller and physical layer hardware while maintaining the carrier frequency. Currently, note in IEEE 802.11g is capable of delivering 54 Mbps, but error correction, encryption and anti-tampering algorithms consume a significant portion of the bandwidth.
