XGI: new brand of Volari graphics chips and new 3D chips
Today XGI Technology (eXtreme Graphics Innovation), a subsidiary of SiS and the successor to all developments in the field of graphics, held its first press conference, at which it officially announced the start of financial operations and the establishment of the first generation of products under its brand.
As for the financial and advertising officialdom, let me leave this data outside the scope of this news for now, because it is more interesting to talk about the presented XGI novelties.
So, under the Volari brand, XGI has introduced a family of discrete graphics chips with DX9 support. The older ones in the series, Volari Duo V8 Ultra and Volari Duo V5 Ultra, are dual-processor solutions for the most powerful graphics systems. For other market segments the company presents: high-end chips Volari V8 Ultra and Volari V8; mainstream chips Volari V5 Ultra and Volari V5; entry-level Volari V3 chip.
New chips are designed specifically for desktop systems, compatible with the requirements of the DirectX9 and OpenGL 1 specifications.four. The older chips in the series support both DDR DRAM and the next generation DDR2 DRAM. The Volari V5 and Volari V8 series XGI dual-socket GPUs are made possible by the new BitFluent Achitecture.
XGI also does not intend to ignore the mobile graphics market. For it, the Volari series features three discrete graphics chips with DirectX9 support: Volari XP5m32 for light models, Volari XP5m64 for performance models and Volari XP5 for other segments.
In conclusion, we present the characteristics of the most productive of the chips presented today ? Volari Duo V8 Ultra:
- 32-bit PCI 2 support.2
AGP2 bus support.0 / AGP3.0
- Hardware auto-detection of AGP1 mode.0, AGP2.0 or AGP3.0
- Dual 8-pipelined 256-bit 3D engine
- Four vertex shader units with full Direct3D 9 support.0 Vertex Shader ver. 2.0
- Eight Pixel Shaders (Pixel Shader 2.0), full Direct3D 9 compatibility.0 Pixel Shader ver. 2.0
- 16 pixel rendering pipelines
- Supports Bump Mapping, Mipmapped Cubic Mapping
2X / 4X FSAA
- 2D engine: hardware command sorting, high-speed Direct Draw accelerator, hardware accelerator GDI 2000, TV-out on the XV301 chip, support for PAL and NTSC systems, composite, S-Video and RGB outputs, support for Macrovision Copy Protection Process Rev. 7.one.L1, HDTV 480i / 480p / 1080i / 720p YPbPr signal conditioning, TMDS transceiver
- MPEG-2 video decoder: Compliant with MPEG-2 MP @ ML standards, support decoding up to 20Mbps bitrate, VCD, DVD and HDTV hardware decoding
- Programmable 24-bit RAMDAC up to 400 MHz
- Built-in VIP interface
- Supports 32KB / 64KB / 128KB ROM
- Package: 1140-pin FC-BGA, dimensions 37.5 x 37.5 mm
Of course, the description of all the new products within the framework of one news is simply unrealistic, therefore, for those interested in the rest of the details, we present a plate dedicated to the specifications of new products.
In conclusion, I would like to note that although the names of some of the “new products” presented today clearly show the “ears” of the chips previously known under other names (which are, for example, the “transparent” names Volari XP5m32 or XV301), however, some of them clearly represents a truly new word in 3D graphics. For the first time, new chips will be demonstrated at Computex 2021, I think by that time prototypes of the first cards on them will also be ready.
