CE Linux Forum: Linux for consumer electronics moves towards standardization
Today there are eight consumer electronics companies ? Matsushita Electric, Sony, Hitachi, NEC, Royal Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sharp and Toshiba have announced the creation of the CE Linux Forum Consortium (CELF, CE = Consumer Electronics).
The new organization, CELF, will develop and negotiate requirements for a common Linux-based platform aimed at audio / video applications in consumer devices, cell phones, etc.P. CELF will publish such requirements, plus take over the functions of validating open source solutions in accordance with the aforementioned requirements. Of course, CELF will also promote products from Linux for CE forum members.
In the near future, IBM plans to join the new forum. Among the most urgent tasks of the forum have already been named reducing the time of loading and unloading the system, expanding real-time capabilities, developing requirements for small-sized ROM / RAM memory, optimizing energy consumption issues. Official CELF documents will be published on the CeLinuxForum website.org.
