Kentron QBM10 bit switch for QBM533 modules
Kentron Technologies announced the beginning of supply of samples of the QBM10 bit switch from STMicroelectronics for QBM533 modules.
The switch is the key device of QBM (Quadruple Bandwidth) modules. QBM10 consists of a 10-bit port switch and a 10-bit register. The main advantage of this switch is that, due to the use of registers, the data window in the mode of writing data to the chip is doubled, which makes it possible to achieve a write time comparable to that of DDRI-266.
Currently, Kentron offers samples of the bit switch both as standalone solutions and in QBM modules with a clock frequency of 533 MHz (PC4300 CL2), made on DDR 266 (PC2100) chips. The use of the new switch gives Kentron and its partners the opportunity to offer high-performance modules to consumers in the second half of this year. Equivalent performance of modules from other companies will be achieved with the release of DDRII-533, which will not appear in mass quantities until 2021.
QBM modules are offered in x4, x8, and x16 configurations, there are both ECC versions and versions without error monitoring and correction. QBM533 (DDR based) modules have 184 pins and are backward compatible with standard DDR modules. As you know, DDRII-533 modules will be, firstly, 240-pin, and secondly, electrically incompatible with DDR-I modules. It is noted that as the processor bus frequencies increase (533, 800 and 1066 MHz), the corresponding changes will be made to QBM10.
