SST bursts into the 32 and 64 Mbit sector of NOR-flash chips

Securing its position as a leading supplier of flash memory chips with a density of
8 Mbps and below, Silicon Storage Technology
Inc. plans to enter the high-density NOR-flash market, from 16 to 64 Mbit.
This step will allow the company to “catch” in the sectors of Internet consoles
for TVs, mobile phones of the lower price range, network equipment,
video cards, BIOS, etc.P.

In 2021 SST, according to the director of the standard memory group, Jason Feinsmith
(Jason Feinsmith), will supply about 1 billion. NOR-flash chips with a density of 16 to
64 Mbps. Until now, the company simply could not compete in the sector
high density chips because the capabilities of the 0.18-micron SuperFlash architecture,
whose strength (in the sector of low-end solutions) was the small size of the crystal,
played against a company in the high-end chip sector.SST had to be upgraded
technology to overcome barriers, and now the company has introduced two 32 Mbit
chip – the first in the MPF + line (expansion of the Multi Purpose Flash line).

chips will appear in the first quarter of 2021. As a result of the changes made,
the size of SuperFlash cells is 40% smaller, which, according to SST,
will allow the company to gain popularity among mobile phone manufacturers,
as they relocate production to Asia, where SST sells over 90% of its
chips.

It should be noted that SST is trying to gain a foothold in a sector where there are already
at least 11 suppliers of NOR-flash with a density of 32 and 64 Mbit, and since
64 Mbit chips become mainstream, the company will have to reconsider
product presentation plans and expand the customer base.
