Intel 865 series chipset shipments to be only 15% in Q2
As noted by The
Digitimes citing forecasts from leading motherboard manufacturers,
shipments of 865 chipsets (Springdale) may account for only 15% of shipments
Intel chipsets in the second quarter, since the boards on the cheaper i845 are
still popular. A little earlier, considering the characteristics of the chipsets
new generation, Intel has informed motherboard manufacturers that the share of the i865
among all shipments of the company’s chipsets will be 25%.
Motherboard manufacturers state that with the exception of the 865P, the 865G chipsets
and 865PE will certainly become the mainstream solutions on the market as they support
800 MHz system bus and dual channel DDR400. However, one must consider,
that deliveries of motherboards for i865 began only at the end of May, and the current demand on the market
low, so the figure of 15% is close to reality.
Faced with low demand, manufacturers began to market chipsets to gray
market, bringing prices of 845PE and 845E down to $ 23.5 and $ 17.
