mmWIG (IEEE): 60 GHz frequency range – for WPAN wireless networks
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced the formation of the mmWIG working group, which will deal with the practical use of the 60 GHz frequency range for the creation of wireless personal area networks (WPAN).
The advantages of using the new 60 GHz frequency range, which, by the way, is 7 GHz wide, are minimal interference with other electronic devices. In addition, the high attenuation of signals of this frequency spectrum when passing through the usual obstacles in the form of walls and interfloor structures, coupled with an initially low range of network devices – about 10 meters, will allow a sufficiently large number of WPAN clients to be located in one building without mutual interference.
So, the newly created group ? IEEE 802.fifteen.3 Millimeter Wave Interest Group ? mmWIG, will first of all be engaged in the development of physical layer specifications for networks of the WPAN standard in the millimeter wave, and we, presumably, will soon learn about the IEEE 802 standard.fifteen.3 much new.
