Japanese companies – for the standardization of liquid batteries

Our news has already repeatedly mentioned that many Japanese companies – NEC, Toshiba, Hitachi, etc., are actively developing various technologies for the production of liquid fuel batteries. By design, such batteries should be small enough to fit even in pocket PCs and phones, and at the same time, powerful enough to provide long enough battery life for laptops.

As you know, recent progress has been made in this area, many companies have already demonstrated working prototypes of such batteries, and the legitimate issue of unifying the characteristics of such power supplies has been on the agenda.

According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun this morning, a working committee is currently being formed in Japan to develop a standard for liquid rechargeable batteries. The committee is formed under the auspices of such organizations as Japan Electrical Manufacturers Association, Battery Association of Japan and Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association. Proposals from the working committee will reach the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Japan in April, and the new standard will take specific outlines during the next fiscal year. Casio Computer, Canon, Sanyo Electric, Sharp, Sony, Fujitsu, Matsushita Electric and Mitsubishi Electric are named as the most active members of the working group.

In the future, it is planned to turn the project under development into a single world standard. It is at this stage, according to Japanese manufacturers, that the form factors and characteristics of such batteries need to be standardized so as not to repeat the inconsistency observed with the appearance of lithium-ion batteries and thereby prevent a slowdown in the widespread adoption of the new standard.

The main problem in the development of the new standard is still the use of poisonous methanol as an energy source. It is safety issues that, according to manufacturers, are subject to standardization in the first place. It is expected that already in 2021 the market for such power supplies will be about ?1 trillion. in year.
