Comtek 2021: the highlight of the program is the Opteron platform

Among the most interesting things seen today at the Comtek 2021 exhibition, I would like to first tell you about the most “stunning” innovations that are called: the Opteron processor and the motherboard for it.

To be honest, there is no noise and fanfare around the real Opteron processor exhibited in one of the booths of the IMPEX Neo Group, moreover, no specialist will pass by without batting an eye. However, it must be assumed that the hype is useless here: a few days will pass, the excitement associated with the official announcement of new 64-bit chips from AMD will gradually subside, and calm and even work will begin to promote the new platform to the market.

At the moment, the official announcement of Opteron processors has already taken place, the main points of the new 64-bit version of the x86 platform – the so-called “AMD64 technology”, we have already described yesterday. Added to this is the fact that industry whales such as IBM, Fujitsu Siemens, LucasFilm JAK Films, Oracle and Microsoft also supported the release of these chips.

In our newsletter, we will repeatedly talk about the features of the processors themselves, their architecture and promotion to the market, but for now I can’t wait to present to your attention a snapshot of the Opteron processor taken with my own hand:

Of course, a processor itself without a platform means little, and it was very pleasant that a board for this processor was found at the Comtek exhibition. The best part is that this board has not been featured in our news yet, so I am doubly pleased to present the DK8S dual-processor board discovered at the IWILL booth.
Comtek 2021: the highlight of the program is the Opteron platform

This Dual Socket 940 board is made in the E-ATX form factor on the AMD 8111 + 8131 chipset bundle, equipped with 4 + 4 slots for registered DDR333 modules with ECC support, ATI Rage XL SVGA PCI graphics (8 MB of memory), two 32-bit / 33 MHz PCI slots, two 64-bit / 66 MHz PCI slots, two 64-bit / 100 MHz PCI-X slots, Gigabit Ethernet adapter (Broadcom), dual-port Serial ATA controller (Promise PDC20378).

Who else, but for me it was so worth going to the exhibition even for the sake of these two exhibits, especially since today the official release of these devices took place. However, next in line I have – a lot of other interesting things, filmed today at “Komtek”. follow the news!
