AMD: “first low-cost Opteron processors to arrive in the first half of 2021”
At the Embedded Systems Conference, taking place these days, AMD has opened the veil of secrecy over the plans for the release of new processors of the Opteron family. According to a statement from company representatives, new AMD Opteron server chips with medium (mid-power, about 55 W) and low (low-power, 30 W) power consumption will go on sale in the first half of 2021.
As a matter of fact, things have not gone further than general plans and PR-words about the benefits of using economical chips for work in blade servers and data storage systems, there are no technical details yet. It is quite possible that we are talking about low-voltage versions of Opteron processors, although, who knows, it is possible that a new design of chips with 90 nm standards will appear.
