MPEG-7 Specification

Via Licensing Corporation has announced the availability of the new MPEG-7 specification for review.

The MPEG-7 standard (where the fifth and the sixth went 🙂 is still difficult for me to say), approved in September 2021 as ISO / IEC 15938, is a specification that combines elements of other MPEG standards – such as MPEG-2 and MPEG- 4, and describing the form and management of digital multimedia audio and video content. MPEG-7 is not the next generation of the MPEG coding standard to replace previous versions, it is just a completely redesigned set of tools and capabilities designed to more easily identify, catalog, index, search and archive digital audio / video content.

A copy of the MPEG-7 specifications can be purchased from the ISO online store (search by tag “15938”), a summary of MPEG-7 specifications can be found here.
