Spot prices for 128 Mbit SDRAM chips have exceeded prices for 256 Mbit chips
Spot prices of 128 Mbit SDRAM chips for one day only, Monday, which
traditionally notable for low activity on memory exchanges, grew by as much as
10% and exceeded the prices of 256 Mbit chips. Three days of last week marked the beginning of
rise in memory prices – both chips and modules are getting more expensive. Moreover, not only SDRAM,
but also DDR. Average prices for 256 and 128 Mbit SDRAM chips were $ 4.06 and $ 3.75,
and DDR – $ 3.65 and $ 1.82, respectively.
Since the end of February, the main reason for the rise in prices for SDRAM is limited
deliveries to the market; memory manufacturers focused on DDR release, yes
and, as observers point out, PC makers are increasingly favoring
DDR. The last upward price spike is due to the beginning of chip stock replenishment
module manufacturers and distributors – after the end of the war in Iraq, it is assumed
a sharp rise in demand for memory around the world. The latest rumors about the destruction of Hussein,
distributed by American special propaganda specialists, apparently,
made the players in the memory market assume the imminent end of the war.
Be that as it may, but even if the war ends soon, the growth in demand
there will be more on SDRAM than on DDR – in consumer electronics it is more widely used

lines for the release of SDRAM, fearing to burn out in anticipation of the mass release of new
