New generation of DVCPRO data acquisition systems with flash memory instead of film
At the National Association Of Broadcasters (NAB 2021), which began on Saturday, Panasonic unveiled its new generation of DVCPRO digital television acquisition systems using flash memory.
The new systems with flash memory are fully compatible with the previous versions of DVCPRO, DVCPRO50 and also support several standards and resolutions simultaneously, including HDTV.
In this case, according to Panasonic, flash memory cards are used for recording, which are compatible with the usual PCMCIA standard, providing a bandwidth of up to 640 Mbps. In DVCPRO systems, the processing of recorded material is greatly simplified and allows you to edit news both “on the fly” and in a studio setting using high-performance servers and workstations.
The DVCPRO camera uses four 1GB flash memory cards each, and the mentioned 640 Mbps bandwidth is achieved by using them in parallel (real bandwidth, therefore, about 160 Mbps). 4GB flash storage capacity for up to 18 minutes of HDTV recording. In the future, it is planned to increase this time by using flash memory cards with a capacity of 4 GB or more that appear on the market.
