ASUS P4PE and 800 MHz FSB: it’s too early to write off the board!
After the announcement of new Intel chipsets with support for 800MHz bus and
the release of boards based on these chipsets, cheaper solutions,
based on i845PE, somewhat receded into the shadows. Really,
many already today want to buy, albeit more expensive, but
incomparably more promising motherboards with support for the latest processors.
What to do for those whose budget does not allow to overpay for
more expensive solutions or for those who simply do not want to change
proven platform? There are two ways out: look for a new inexpensive motherboard based on an old chipset, for example, ASUS P4PE-X on i845PE, with
guaranteed support for 800MHz bus, or try the “overclocking” capabilities of the proven P4PE board.
As we were told in the Russian representative office of ASUS, the company’s laboratories have tested dozens of P4PE boards of different revisions, which have shown that all of them are guaranteed to work with processors at a system bus frequency of 800 MHz. At the same time, all randomly selected P4PE boards exceeded the bus frequency of 800MHz without compromising system stability.
The specimen shown in the photo went through a full-fledged stress
testing at a system bus frequency of 864 MHz.
