Silicon Graphics (SGI) Announces New Silicon Graphics Tezro Desktop Graphics Workstation and Silicon Graphics Onyx4 UltimateVision 4-Processor Graphics System.

The Silicon Graphics Tezro workstation will be available in two case versions: desktop and rackmount. At the heart of Silicon Graphics Tezro ? architecture similar to that used in SGI Origin 3000 servers. The novelty is made on a 64-bit processor with MIPS architecture, equipped with a Vpro V12 graphics subsystem (12 bits per color, 48-bit RGBA space), runs under the 64-bit UNIX operating system IRIX 6.five. In a desktop configuration, a system with a 600 MHz MIPS R16000 processor (4 MB L2 cache), with 512 MB of RAM, Vpro V12 graphics, an 18 GB hard drive, a keyboard and pre-installed IRIX OS will cost about $ 3100.
The system is primarily intended for structural molecular analysis, high quality imaging applications and simulators for automotive and aviation applications.

Silicon Graphics Onyx4 UltimateVision is the next generation graphics system. Unlike its predecessor InfiniteReality4, which supports up to 8 processors, Onyx4 UltimateVision supports up to 32CPU, and 64-processor systems are expected to ship towards the end of 2021.

In the minimum configuration, Onyx4 UltimateVision is equipped with two graphics subsystems, two 600 MHz processors with 4 MB L2 cache, 1 GB of RAM, 18 GB hard drive, LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse, preinstalled IRIX OS and a set of rack mounts. Such a kit will cost about $ 78,000.
