As you know, despite the numerous advantages, fiber-optic communication remains very expensive, and therefore much attention is paid by industrialists to the problem of reducing the cost of fiber-optic communication lines. Last year Siemens demonstrated the ability to transmit data over a segment of a 160-channel DWDM network with a length of about 1000 km without signal amplification, and this year the little-known (so far) RedClover Networks announced the possibility of transmitting information at a rate of 10 Gbps over single-mode fiber (SMF- 28) 240 km long without the need for additional modules for NRZ coding, spectral density correction, forward-error-correction (FEC) and dispersion-compensating fiber (DCF). Thus, already sold commercial Transdaptor transceivers can be used at distances three times the standard 80 km for 10 Gbps.

RedClover was able to eliminate the need to use numerous correction modules thanks to Adaptive Fiber transmission Impairment Compensation (AFIC) technology, the essence of which is fine adaptive optical and electronic compensation of the spread of the parameters of light emitted into the fiber. Transdaptor transceivers are available in EML (for SONET / SDH) and WDM (tunable lasers) based versions and support several different data rates: 9.95 Gb / s (OC-192, 10GE WAN), 10.3125 Gb / s ( 10GE LAN), 10.664 Gb / s (G.975), 10.709 GB / s (G.709) and 11.1 Gb / s (10GbE FEC).
